Road Trip Continues....

Up to Virgina to see Denny's parents! We had so much fun visiting Bob and Viv at their home. It was GORGEOUS there! The leaves had really turned and everywhere was just beautiful!

Our visit had been planned for awhile. In between planning the visit and actually getting there, it was discovered Bob has Cancer. It is squamous cell carcinoma on the back of his tongue. Squamous cell is the "curable" type of cancer so that's the positive news. And before you ask....Bob is NOT A SMOKER! He's one of the healthiest people I know. He golfs regularly, walks daily and eats healthy. He's NEVER smoked! SC cancer can appear on anyone, anywhere at anytime. We've learned CANCER doesn't play favorites.

We are grateful this trip was planned when it was. After hearing the news we were anxious (Denny especially) to go see how he was for ourselves. Sometimes, email updates and phone calls just aren't enough. So it was great to be there with him and hug him and see that he was doing okay.

Denny was able to take him to radiation (which he does M-F, with chemo on TH) on Monday, where to our surprise the doctors took a look at him and said he needed a rest. So they gave him the week off. That was great news and really lifted his spirits. The hospital is 45 minutes away so it's a lot of work to get up and get going every single day. Turned out that Bob was feeling really rough and dehydrated so he went in for fluids each day anyways. Not really the break he was looking for.

Our visit was good, but Bob was actually feeling his lowest he'd felt while were were there. He slept a lot and it started being hard for him to speak, which kept him from talking and interacting very much. We laid low and hung out. Denny would take Bob for fluids and Viv and I would run a few errands and have lunch. One day we went to the local creamery for ice cream! SOOOOO yummy! Everything is produced and made on site and it is good! A bummer for Bob though, who LOVES ice cream and can't eat. He has a tube in his stomach through which he gets food. But he did have fun feeding Macy Brooks:)
They live on a golf course and the photographer in me just couldn't resist taking MB out some afternoons for mini-shoots while she explored a new area
And of course we got a few shots with "momma"
This is her new way to "hug" me and I love it!
She had the best time going for walks and exploring
We are very thankful for this time we had with Bob and Vivian! Any and all prayers are appreciated for his recovery. He still has a small lump in his neck so please pray that the radiation and chemo continues to shrink it even after treatment, since he is almost done:) Yea!
